From July 1, 2026, a truck toll will be introduced in the Netherlands. This means that all vehicles registered under vehicle category J as N2 and N3 must be equipped with a working OBU (Onboard Unit) while driving on public roads. The OBU registers whether the vehicle is driving on roads for which a truck toll is due. This applies to all motorways and on some provincial and municipal main roads. The service provider (supplier of the OBU) sends an invoice for the due toll to the license plate holder.
Information: www.vrachtwagenheffing.nl (also in German) or www.trucktoll.nl (in English).
The national service provider Nedlinq supplies OBUs that are only usable in the Netherlands. Nedlinq is obliged to supply an OBU for every truck. These OBUs do not incur subscription fees or other fixed costs. Only the kilometers driven are charged. The OBU has a deposit of € 135. The deposit will be paid back on the intact return of the OBU.
Please note: OBUs from TollCollect (Germany) and Satellic (Belgium) do not work in the Netherlands.
Other service providers supply OBUs that are usable in multiple countries. These works with subscriptions with fixed periodic costs. Fuel card suppliers also provide OBUs. These suppliers are not obliged to accept all trucks. This means that they prefer not tocater for private trucks.
EXEMPTION
An exemption can be applied for for vehicles older than 40 years according to the Date of First Admission (field B on the registration card). See TruckToll Dispensation.
TEMPORARY OBU
For a temporary stay in the Netherlands, an OBU can be ordered from Nedlinq. The only cost is a deposit. See TruckToll Nedlinq or www.nedlinq.nl
